I recently presented at the Florida South East Regional Conference on a number of “boring” but necessary topics for doctors of chiropractic as well as other health care professionals. It even included a trip to the campus of Florida Atlantic University, where I had the privilege of sharing the podium with some of their sports medicine doctors and athletic trainers. But what hit home the most was being able to present a case study about the care and recovery from a “high ankle sprain”. I was able to demonstrate that with this patient, we were able to accelerate the healing process enough to get her back on the field weeks ahead of schedule and healthy. Healthy enough to play at her national finals. We documented the procedures including but not limited to home care,
laser treatment, manual work and extensive progressive rehabilitative exercises. Truth be told, that girl was my daughter. We treated her the same way we work with the professional athletes we treat as well as our day to day patients.
This time of year many kids are returning to the fields of their dreams. Do not let an early season injury get in the way of their enjoyment or their desire to play. Get them checked out early. Make the best decision for them to return them to play in a healthy and lasting manor. For more information, please feel free to call our office at 410 766 4878.
